On a March 14th about forty years ago, Cynthia (D’Attilio) Yates was born–two weeks earlier than expected. It was the last time she was early for anything. Even as a child, she was often late for school because she was busy, writing. None of these early works remain in existence, and the world is better for it. Full of pre-adolescent angst and adolescent anxiety, they were a combination of J.D. Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye and Are You There God, It’s Me, Margaret by Judy Blume.

Cyn continued writing through college, where she majored in English and Secondary Education. It was during this time that she discovered that the romance genre–though sneered at by her peers–was far more satisfying to read than literary fiction. (Or Judy Blume.) She began writing her own stories of true love.

During this time, she also found true love. In 1989, she met her husband-to-be and within five minutes, felt as if she’d known him all her life. (This may have had something to do with the fact he was dressed as Santa Claus, at the time.) They married in 1993; it was a June wedding completely unattended by elves or reindeer.

Since then, Cyn has spent most of her time cleaning up the chaos and crumbs left by her three children, two dogs, and Santa. Currently a trapped-at-home mom and a part-time historical interpreter at Slater Mill in Pawtucket, Rhode Island (the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution) she continues to be late for everything because she’d rather be writing. And finally, it’s paying off! Cyn recently signed her first contract and her book, Kissing Trick, will be published by The Wild Rose Press (no release date has yet been confirmed).
